together some wonderful ideas for your attention while in
Birmingham:
-
Birmingham Railway Museum
If you a railroading buff, then this incredible collection of train engines
will excite you beyond your wildest imagination. These engines are the results
of years of collecting the finest examples of train engines in the world.
Tyseley Locomotive Works is the engineering apparatus behind the Vintage Trains
that are the Birmingham Railway Museum Trust. With 23 models of the steam engine
starting from the 5101 class going to the Hall class, then the Castle class;
with the Duchess of Hamilton, Percy, Cadbury #1, Henry and finally Fred of
Robert Stephenson and Hawthorn, these majestic horses of iron would thrill the
people of yesterday when they went whistling by. In the diesel and electric
class, there are another 17 engines that make up this remarkable train engine
collection. A must see for anyone that has ever been thrilled by these huge
machines flying by the landscapes.
-
Bromwich Gardens
A wonderful place to enjoy the landscaping and the architectural designs
from the 17th century only 5 miles outside of Birmingham. This Jacobean home
sits amidst the original garden setting from the first hall and garden built in
1599. In 1657, it was sold and revamped to the marvelous condition it is today.
Many consultants input their ideas to form the garden with various designs of
self-contained areas of plants, flowers, hedges and walkways. Created in the
formal garden styles of the Dutch in the 17th century, it has remained the same
through the centuries despite the removal and remodeling of other gardens in the
same venue. Especially marvelous is the fact that the city of Birmingham
continued to grow around it and change over the years.
-
Cannon Hill Park
This wonderful park is considered to be one of the prime parks in the city
and was awarded the Green Flag status; as it encompasses beautiful trees, pools,
lakes and incredible flower beds with varieties brought to the area from all
over the world by the British colonies. There are tennis courts, bowling greens,
putting greens, walkways and cycle trails along the Rea River. There is a
wildflower meadow replanted each year with cornfield annuals such as the corn
marigold, cornflower and field poppy. It is a great place to take your family
and relax and enjoy the beauty and serenity of nature. They have boats to rent
at the lake, with numerous picnic areas and a Garden Tea Room. The Midland Arts
Center, located there does have a cafe and bar available to the public.
