To help with your vacation to the Dominican Republic, Alamo and Rental Car
Choices have teamed up to give you some great suggestions for attractions:
-
Calao Plage
Located between the Martinez Hotel and the Carlton Hotel, the Calao beach is
the place to be when the sun is shining and the weather warm. With a plethora of
amenities, it is a marvel to visit; some of the great amenities include;
water-skiing, massages, deckchairs, billiards, table football, video games,
table tennis, locker rooms and warm showers. In the evenings, there are numerous
receptions and musical performances to keep you very busy in this famous French
resort town by the Med.
-
La Croisette
This area gets its name from the small cross that was at the east end of the
bay. The promenade is favored by visitors and locals sitting in the middle of
Cannes, with the Mediterranean on the one side, the Lerins Islands off the coast
and the Esterel mountains on the land side. Palm trees, exquisitely ornate
hotels and trendy boutiques adorn the area. Built in the 19th century, this town
is a magnet for people who come to thrill with the amazing images of the rich
and famous all over. One of the best attractions of this town is the film
festival when all the stars are here and the tourists are here to watch and see
who is with who and where.
-
Galerie du Carlton
This great gallery located at the Carlton Hotel is a must see for the
visitor. With an excellent collection of glassware, sculptures and paintings by
such greats as Vlaminck, Chagall, Matisse, Renoir, Picasso and Utrillo; you will
definitely not be wasting your time. The gallery is always interested in
purchasing art as well as selling it.
-
Ste-Marguerite
Only a fifteen minute boat ride brings you to the biggest of the 3 Lerin
Islands, Ste-Marguerite. Long ago, called Lero, many boats are available to take
you across the bay to the islands. On Ste-Marguerite, a 17th century fort sits
with the Maritime Museum within and it was at one time a prison; and home to the
famous "man in the iron mask", still unidentified.
-
Musee International de la Parfumerie
This is the place to check your nose out since it is the birthplace of
perfumes, in Grasse, where a museum has been raised to show you how it is
created, distilled and extracted from the many kinds of base materials it is
made from. Began in 1989, it has a surprising collection of artifacts related to
the perfume and make-up business. One of the most interesting items is the
travel case of Marie Antoinette. On the museum's terrace, refreshments are
available.
-
Notre-Dame d'Esperance
The beautiful Provencal Gothic church called the Notre-Dame d'Esperance was
finished in 1648, with ornate wood paneling from the 14th and 15th centuries. A
19th century collection of paintings are located here with a magnificent fresco
by George Roux about the baptism of Jesus Christ. Sitting on the top of Suquet
Hill in the older part of Cannes, a wonderful panoramic view of the town and bay
lay beneath you. Gilded wood statues of Saint Anne and Notre-Dame d'Esperance
from the 15th and 18th centuries are more of the exquisite artifacts you will
find at this wonderful church.
